It started with my son being on—on vacation with his girlfriend in Hua Hin where they had um, a traffic incident, traffic accident. So, um, in short, he was in a bad state. His brain was severely uh injured, swollen. His left side was very, very badly injured. His right arm was broken, his uh left leg was broken in two places, his nose, chin bone, shoulder, chin, everything was broken.
The surgery process was, uh, of course, the uh in the beginning it was his brain was—he was so severely swollen. Then when—after the brain was uh, beginning to be a better uh, they had to uh they had to focus on his uh, his other ligament, that's to say, his arm, which was, uh broken, and his shoulder was broken in four places, and uh, two places in his uh, right—left bones. And—and uh so he had four serious operations in that time before uh after 3 months his uh brain was—his skull was closed October 19, which was done 3 months after the incident. So he had some serious uh, operations here. Done really, really, really good. Exceptionally good.
From the start, there was a team of doctors and uh visited him every day. And after every—everything that happened, even if if there was just uh, a blood samples taken, we always got a new report saying, "This is what was done, this is the result." And uh everything was really professional. And—and uh we were kept in—in the process every day and um we always knew what was—what had happened and what his current status was, and what was likely to be uh occurring in the future. So we couldn't be happier.
Coming from a Western Europe country, you're not quite sure what to expect. And uh—uh after seeing the status of the hospital in Hua Hin, coming here, one was very, very pleased because uh this—the people that uh greeted you and just showed you around, everything was very professional. And the professionalism of the doctors is exceptional, because you really don't know what to expect. But uh from the first minute you—you came here, you could feel the professionalism and uh you knew instantly that he was in a good place. And uh it's your child, so uh to be—to be secure with the treatment is a very—a big step. It's a—it's a really good place to be in.
And we were also kept in touch with the doctors in Iceland and uh so we knew that they were happy with the professionalism. So then you are double secure. You—you in your heart knew they were good, and then you had this confirmation from the abroad that they were doing the right thing. So you couldn't be more uh, happy.
Initially, it should have been our insurance company that gave us the service of bringing them home, but they could not give us the service that we needed. Instead of that, we turned to the medical and aviation uh department here in this hospital, and they were happy to give us the service. And they have been providing it for us, and they've been, uh, arranging for our trip back home. And um after 2 days, we will be flying home with the medical team here from... and um everything seems to be uh clicking and uh we [are] very happy with that result. So I couldn't be happier in that—in that respect.
