I suffered for a long, long time from spinal stenosis with severe pain travelling down into my leg, and I could not achieve any medical treatment—satisfactory medical treatment—in Canada at all.

But the first direction I should consider is look at what other international hospitals are offering. So, because my background is German, I chose to look at some German clinics. And next to the German clinics, Bumrungrad came up all the time, and I looked at it, and it showed Thailand. And I thought, "Thailand sounds very good, never mind the surgery, but the climate and the people."
